BBT has a new card product called the BBT Prepaid Moneycard. I got a card for my son who is in college.
It is a prepaid VISA that allows branch deposit of funds and also via VISA Ready Link at Walmart. The card is used like a VISA debit card at ATMs and VISA merchants.
It is a great product but the fees are pricey.
The website says that ATM withdrawls are FREE at ATMs displaying the BBT logo. There are fees for accessing funds from foreign ATMs.
Last weekend while in Atlanta, my son used his card at two different BBT ATM machines and was charged $2.50 for each transaction. Both were remote BBT ATMs and not attached to a branch. But the ATMs did clearly say BBT24.
He called customer service and asked for a refund of the fees. They were denied. BBT insisted he used Star ATMs and not BBT ATMs.
The ATMs he used were clearly marked BBT24.
Is this just BBT trying to "screw" a young kid with limited resources out of money?
I agree with parents that want their kid to have a credit card and they provide a debit card to keep them from overspending. The fees are very high on these cards. It does not make sense to me to have a debit card, if you are a responsible individual and pay you bills timely, you should use a credit card. Most credit cards have no fees or costs if you pay the balance in full upon receipt of yourstatement. Many cards offer rewards, like a 1% refund on all of your charges. Thinki about it.
