I bought 2 Cree bulbs from Home Depot, have had them for about 1 month, they have brilliant light, The first bulb I installed in a bedroom fan light fixture. 2 days later I decided to unscrew the bulb. The glass cover came off. It is just glued on! Yesterday I tried to remove the second bulb and the very same thing happened! It appears that the glass cover is merely glued on and that the glue is defective, considering that the bulbs come with a life time warranty, this is going to prove very costly for Cree. For this reason, I am selling all my shares in Cree this am and will go short!
Please post your trade or tell us when you went short and at what price and then when you cover. I want to be able to hold you to this when it reaches $75 again. I don't want to hear the old "oh, I covered long ago and made money" excuse. Waiting patiently.
The bulb is not a vacuum is true with an incandescent bulb. It is possible to remove the cover. You can read about it in a report done by Margery Conner on March 12, 2013 available in Designing with LEDs. It should not be easily done. If it is easily done, that would be a defect, and you should report it to Cree and get a replacement.
