Cree knows HD's reputation for high quality products. Cree has had its hands full building enough for HD's demand without going to Lowes, Walmart, etc. When production scale is higher, Cree will likely sell elsewhere.
For those of you who are uninformed. WalMart had many of their stores replaced all of their lighting with Cree LEDs. They could do so because they were a customer. Cree had signed an Exclusivity contract with HD and cannot sell their products in Wal Mart, which they were hoping to be able to. I don't know how many stores they did this except for a store inRochester, NY.
Ple ase Google "Cree and WalMart". Scroll down and you will find several articles that prove that Cree and WalMart worked together to enhance the lighting for their customers by installing Cree Lighting. This certainly should be enough evidence that WalMart would sell Cree products in their stores if it were possible. It's unfortunate that this kind of information dos not flood these online sights and "Analyst' that Cree should be destroying their competition. Alas, that's typical misinformation out their.
Um, because Wally world isn't where you go for good stuff, just stuff that's good enough to get by.... Saw the article where the guy compared the Walmart/CREE 40 watt and 60 watt bulbs, he carefully didn't point out that the CREE bulbs have a higher CRI rating, and that the 60 watt CREE bulbs are 20% more efficient than the Wally bulbs....
Meh, Wally has low prices for same goods that cost more elsewhere minus the frills. Sales vloumes at wally and HD for bulbs are no comparison. GE will sell tons more bulbs at Wally.
Next year if Wally started carrying CREE, will you say CREE is not good quality bulb?
