why would anyone invest in these etf's? when there are companies like the ones mentioned above that pays a nice dividend and do not have hefty montly expenses. I think etf's are for suckers, the ones that follow the pumpers on CNBC.
I have some concern that MLPs are being "taken public" through the Alerian and several other funds that have recently started. I remember when Blackstone decided to take private equity public and that signified the top in the market. MLPs are a unique subset of public companies that have flown below the radar for a very long time. They are being hyped all over CNBC by the FastMoney crew and others and some companies (ONEOK comes to mind) are actually advertising on CNBC.
While it might be cause for celebration that MLPs are finally being recognized, it gives me some concern, especially with the rather large number of UPOs and IPS coming to market. All those new shares have to be marketed to someone and who knows if those are strong or weak hands?
this is my concern as well. I would never buy into the funds, better just to pick winners like EPD and outperform it over time, as well as avoid the fees. I'm not sure if it's a benefit to have so much institutional ownership or a hindrance, positives and negatives to both.
