Barron's had a recent interview with Kevin McCarthy co-manager of 4 MLP funds for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. When asked about future taxations plans of MLP's by our government he answered...
"Q: Could MLPs lose some of their tax benefits in a government bid to reduce the deficit?
A: It is unlikely for several reasons. It is a policy that has been in place really since 1987 and the one thing that I can assure you, it is a tax policy that has worked. Energy infrastructure is in the best shape of any U.S. infrastructure. Look at electricity distribution infrastructure, transportation. Number two, it is not that big of an industry in terms of the impact on deficit reduction. Third, the MLP sector has created thousands of good, high-paying jobs."
I thought this was a well-reasoned answer...not that politicians are all that "well reasoned".
