What do you guys think of ZOOM? They are just coming out of some tough times, just profitable again, and have re-focused from selling dial-up modems to all emerging technologies. I love their tech - what do you guys think of their financials?
"Honestly, no stock is worth touching until it surpasses its all-time high, which means this stock would have to go from 5.xx to 27.xx first."
Yikes. Do you realize that that strategy would have kept you out of just about everything this year? Even large, established companies are still not trading above their all-time highs after that huge drop in 2001-2002. Take Intel - you would have missed out on the run up from 25 to 53. Or Sandisk - run from Jan03-today: 15-69. TI and Cisco have both doubled in a year, and still aren't trading near highs. In fact at the beginning of this year (when most stocks were *very* cheap), there would have been very few stocks to invest in.
I'm a fundementals investor, not a technicals investor, but even I can see that strategy is not wise.
"You can bet on a leader, or you can bet on an also-ran."
Or you can do the prudent thing, and stay diversified. This is not either-or. I fear for you if you have all your money in TASR. I'm firmly long on TASR - but as much as I'm in love with it, I don't keep all my money there.
And you can also buy into leaders when they're down, and getting back on their feet. I made a fortune on Intel - and I would have totally missed out if I had waited to buy in till after it was at all-time highs.
"TASR is a leader ZOOM is an also-ran"
I think TASR has far more to go - but I also see alot of potential in companies that have restructured their product lines and come out strong.
