This isn't good going into the driving season

No. Fast casual, e.g., Pnra and CMG, are the next step down from casual dining.

Are you really this uneducated with these sectors or do you just play stupid when it serves you???

    • I guess I am. I would rather have a 5.00 burger at chillies then a 7.00 Wellshirefarm snack pack sandwich at Panera. It comes down to cost when the consumer is in a crunch.

      • Why is Panera included in the article???

Banc of America Securities analyst Andrew M. Barish said Brinker's results show consumers are less interested in casual dining concepts as gasoline prices rise and the housing market remains soft.

"Weak trends at Chili's (and other grill & bar concepts) continue to depict a weak middle-income consumer cutting back & trading down in face of high fuel costs & falling home values," Barish wrote in a note to investors.

Investors responded at Brinker by sending shares down 78 cents, or 2.4 percent, to $31.90 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

Both Panera Bread Co. and the Cheesecake Factory Inc. report their earnings after the market closes Tuesday. Panera shares fell 35 cents to $55.90, while Cheesecake Factory shares slipped 5 cents to $26.07.
