Intuit Inc. Message Board

Prediction: The end of bulletin boards

I've noted that the SPAMMers have gotten better
at their miserable little trade. There are more of
them and they are now able to get their messages on
virtually every stock board almost daily.

    Just how
long will it be before the SPAM renders the boards
useless? Given the unpoliceable nature of the net and the
rate of SPAM acceleration, I wouldn't be surprised to
see free message boards forced shut within 3-5 years.
The intended users will, when this gets a LITTLE
worse, give up on the boards -- leaving them like the
grocery-store tack-and-paper boards: cluttered, largely unread,
    and purely for freebie ads.

    The SPAMers are
transforming themselves from annoying to hateful. But, like
the plague of automated answering systems, I fear
that they are here to stay for as long as rats exist
    to carry the contagion.
