Last month it was 15%....my broker deducted 25% this month.
Just checked my account 2/22/2012 - ERF ENERPLUS RES (CDN) DIVIDEND ON 2,000 SHARES OF ERF @ .18052 $0.00 $0.00 $361.05 No 2/22/2012 - ERF ENERPLUS RES (CDN) 15.0000% FOREIGN TAX $0.00 $0.00 ($54.16) No
I got the same $0.18052/shr. as you did but I had 25% with-held...first time, all other times has been 15%.Yes you are right; I get the money back as a tax credit.
You need to fill out and send in the NR301 tax form. I'm mailing mine today! This reduces the Canadian tax withholding to a minimum (won't know what percent is until next month though).Wish I could attach the form to this message!
Shouldnt matter, You can get a foreign tax credit.
Ran into the 25% tax issue in my Scottrade account but not my Schwab. Found out if you are registered with your broker with a PO Box vs your home address you are taxed 25%. Rule came down towards end of last year. Makes no sense but what does when politicians are involved. I switched my Sottrade account and back to 15%.Go figure.....SF
