Why Apple TV will be a BIG success...

Apple TV takes a different approach.
Try to honestly understand what it does.

Apple TV simply has a huge and growing library of media that it elegantly places at your finger tips for a reasonable fee or for free. This now includes Music, TV shows, Movies, PodCasts, Radio, Movie Trailers, Photos etc...

You will be able to easily and reliably sample and purchase media from all over the world instantaneously. This will include very new and over time, very old media in all languages from all over. That is a very powerful connection.

It is actually a good thing that it only supports h.264 (aka MOEG-4 AVC) because for what it does, that is the best format out there today and tomorrow. This also leads to higher quality in terms of getting what you expect to get when you buy a movie or a show from Apple.

Some people complain about DRM and even I would prefer to do away with DRM but if you have an Apple TV or an iPod, DRM is really not a problem. You have to ask yourself, if DRM is so bad, why is iTunes so popular? Because it is a great product that is simple, easy and reliable to use.

It is simpler, more elegant, more convenient, more reliable, better supported, more popular and has better quality in terms of getting what you expect to get every time when you purchase from Apple Inc....

TiVo fans will likely remain TiVo fans as Apple fans will likely remain Apple fans.

I look forward to receiving my Apple TV tomorrow. I have a 2 erabyte NAS that holds my iTunes media and has an iTunes server built-in. I look forward to a very enjoyable relationship with Apple.

why not ! everyone else is doing it and getting away with it......

    • Are you kidding me? $300 for a paper weight? I won't be buying one.
Honestly, I tried to understand what it does and I have come to the conclusion it is useless.

      • It is often very difficult for people to change the way they do things. When a new method does not follow the same protocol as their current one, they often think it is useless.

When Apple introduced the Graphical User Interface (GUI) with a Mouse in 1984, many people who were familiar with Microsoft DOS command prompt thought it would be useless. It wasn't.

Imagine forgetting to record an episode with TiVo one day, or neglecting to record a whole series because it was showing only in a foreign country or perhaps your were not even born yet when it was showing :) How will you easily and reliably sample and get the episode or the whole series if you want to get it?

Apple TV. It may not be the only answer, but it will likely be the easiest, most elegant, most reliable way to sample, purchase and enjoy multi media.
