Pep, sounds like you're a Wichita fan. Congrats. That was an impressive win. if they win the next game, they'll be the highest seed ever to go to the championship game. Do you live in or in the Wichita area? I don't have great memories from the last time I was in in Wichita. It was March 1990 and at the time I was doing a combination of selling, installing and servicing medical equipment. We were doing an upgrade to our major product by installing new micro processors and a few other things so the equipment could do more and produce readings for items that it couldn't do before. I was driving all over the Midwest, updating these machines. I was in Wichita one afternoon to update a machine. We didn't have cell phones back then but when I got to my Wichita stop, they gave me a message that my office called and wanted me to contact them. They said they found out that there was a problem with the microprocessors that we received and not to do anymore upgrades until they can get new microprocessors. So I just decided to stay in Wichita for the night and head back toward home the next morning. I got a hotel room on the east side of Wichita. When I was getting stuff out of my van to take into the hotel room, the wind was blowing from the south at probably 45 mph. Not gusts, just a constant strong wind. I've never seen that before. When I got up in my room, I turned the TV on and they started talking about the severe weather that was forming and tornado warnings for several areas. Then the storm chasers were reporting on a very large tornado and they said its heading straight for the Pizza Hut in Hesston KS and said if you're inside there, take cover at once. It turned out to be an F5 that destroyed the Pizza Hut but the people inside all went into the walk-in cooler and that was the only thing that survived and they were all safe. That's when I realized that if it weren't for that phone call to my office to stop the installations, I would have been in Hesston CONT.

      • Yes , Larry. I remember when about 3 or 4 years ago you said Kansas people are rednecks. I said that's ok, I like your posts anyway. Actually I was born there and graduated high school there and only lived in the great state of Kansas about 8 years. Many good people there, I miss them, yes rednecks like everywhere. It is still where I am from and it is. Because of the weather, lol, I left many years ago. I live in the great southwest for a very long time with stints in cal. And Colorado.I have been to Washington to visit and love it, but to much rain. To dry here. Thanks for your great posts! And remember, wmt sucks! You are the bomb.

        Sentiment: Strong Sell

I would have been in Hesston about the same time the tornado hit because I had made that trip before and when I would go from Wichita to Hutchinson, I would go north from Wichita on the interstate and get off at Hesston and drive west to Hutchinson. Close call. There were a bunch of tornadoes that afternoon and evening. When it was still light, one of the TV stations said they were on the west side of town and they could see a tornado on the ground just to their west. I was on the east side of town but I thought, hey, Kansas is flat, I'm going to go outside and see if I can see it because I've never seen one. Couldn't see it. Anyway, that was a hell of a day, the last time I was in Wichita. Huge tornado outbreak.
