Why hedge funds have been attacking SunTech, and the solar industry, so viciously? You would think that after dropping from $80 to $1 (even $10) they made tons of money shorting the stock. Why they were so insistent on bankruptcy?? It almost looks like they were promised some kind of bonus payable only if the company goes bankrupt. Who else benefits in case of bankruptcy of a company? In case of STP, I can imagine there could be people out there who are against alternative energy. For example Oil companies. Oil creates demand for US dollars in the world as oil is allowed to be traded only in US dollars. So, Oil trade is critical for the survival of the US.
We know that hedge funds can keep a lot of information secret from the government, which is by itself very suspicious. Could big corporations hire hedge funds to force their competitiors to bankruptcy? Is that legal in the US?
