Advantages of BUNAVAIL over existing suboxone versions?
Can someone explain to me the advantages of BUNAVAIL over suboxone film and SL versions? Is it improved taste? Suboxone is not that hard to administer as an SL or film. Taste can be an issue but overall not a huge deal. I own a small position in this name because it seems undervalued but will take a larger position if I can see why an addiction specialist would prescribe it. Or is the argument that it is me too but only needs a small amount of a large market to impact BDSI.
BDSI website has a side-by-side comparison chart that you should check out. Find it under Investor Relations tab; in practically any presentation they're given recently.
The biggest advantage, in my opinion, is the lower amount of active ingredient required via buccal administration. A competent doctor would not want to prescribe more active ingredient than necessary. Especially to a patient with a history of drug abuse, regardless of the presence of the naloxone.
Since many of these docs make a nice living on the repeat customer base that this therapy produces, don't be suprised if the success/failure of BUNAVAIL boils down to the pricing. From what I've read, a sizable portion of the patient base is cash and carry.
