a) I don't believe the Earth is warming. I think the whole thing is a hoax.
b) the Earth may be warming, but I don't think humans have anything to do with it.
c) the Earth may be warming and humans may be responsible for it, but I don't think there's anything we can or should do about it.
d) the Earth is definitely warming and humans are probably responsible, and we should do everything in our power to reverse it before it's too late.
e) other -- please specify
I am genuinely interested in how people would answer this question, and this is the kind of thing this board could actually be good for, but I understand most of you are here for some other purpose that only your own warped minds understand.
E) The earth may be warming but the proposed carbon tax that will take trillions out of the economy, and is to be used to fund third world countries because supposedly they will not be able to industrialize because there is already too much carbon in the atmosphere is laughable. Furthermore the day alternative energy becomes economically viable (say no more than 20% more expensive to heat my home and drive my car) count me ALL IN.
Depends where you live. In PG&E territory (northern California) buying solar electricity off your roof is already cheaper than buying electricity from the utility. Not the case in other areas of the country. Likewise, the premium I paid for my hybrid car pays for itself in fuel savings at around 60K miles so I consider that a good use of money also.
A carbon tax should not be used to subsidize other countries. It should be implemented so that the price that you pay for power adequately reflects the environmental impacts of producing that power.
I am not a climatologist but would have to rely on the vas majority of scientists world wide that say it is warming and green house gasses contribute to it.
Clearly, if that is true, we could do more to reduce our contribution to the problem. On the other hand without a serious effort by china and India and other countries that are big contributors, I am not sure that our very best efforts would make a significant difference.
E) We don't know if this is a trend or an aberation. Not enough data. Scientists agree. As for the politics, liberal 'Rats want to redistribute wealth from wealthy countries to the not so wealthy ones to appease some sense of guilt they have because we are blessed nation that once honored God Almighty. Gorebal warming is a guise for such redistribution of wealth. Call it, "stealth-wealth redistibution" if you will......
No, no questions. Your answer is C. The earth may be warming and humans may be responsible, but you don't want to do anything about it. That's my answer too. The only difference between you and me is that I am honest about it and you aren't.
E) The earth is warming. Human industrial activity is responsible. I doubt that we, as a species, are smart enough to do anything about it. We may already be past the tipping point so it may not even matter.
Right answer is E) other, let me explain, the earth IS warming, people are at least partly responsible.
If we could agree on that, then it would be possible to have a converation, but deniers won't talk logicaly, so nothing.....
My point is that most people have an answer other than D, and they are too cowardly to be honest about it because they are afraid to give anything other than the politically correct answer.
E, The earth has natural warmed and cooled in the past. Manmade climate change warming or cooling is not settled science and the climate change have made so many outrageous statements which have turned out not to be true. Professional skepticism makes me question their projections for the future. And the climate change scientists should be held to account for the actions and the actions which they have inspired.
