Successful shorting doesn't always require that there be a fundamental problem with a stock. In fact, shorting based on fundamentals (as opposed to technicals) is downright dangerous in this market. Look at all the short roadkill amongst the internets--until recently that is :)
One can short successfully on a purely technical basis having nothing to do with the stocks fundamentals. I believe the large short interest in ANLT simply reflects the fact that until relatively recently the general trend is this stock was downward.
If you look at a chart of ANLT you will see this stock moves around a lot. Obviously the company's prospects do not change dramatically from week to week. Nevertheless the moves happen, and are potentially tradable on both the long and short side, although not by me--I can't trade for beans :)
