For several years up until january 1 2008 I maxxed my IRA contributions on the first trading day of the calendar year. In 2008 I figured the economy was faltering so I decided to dollar cost average $100 per week for the year. Good move!
I'm continuing that weekly purchase this year and will do the same the next three years.
I think it's too early in this economic cycle to do the one time contributions after New Year's day. The stock crash of 1929 took a few years to bottom. Same thing can happen. Stocks may bottom in 2012. But this is a cycle, nonetheless. We will grow out of this sooner or later. Good luck!
Thanks for the reply.....I decided to Vanguard High Yield Corp.....is where my Roth is. I max out my wife and mine 02 JAN......will we still invest in the SP 500 thru our 401K. I really like the yield these r giving- High Yield Corp.
Okay. I have VWESX myself. Good yield but since you said you are into Roths, I assume you have a few decades to go before retirement. In the long run large company stocks perform better than corporate bonds. The last ten years were bad for VFINX. Could the next ten years be better? Cycles always happen.
