This is PURELY anecdotal but TRUE...."Expert Advice"

Made a quick trip to local Sam's club to pick up some pizza's (they're delicious and the large is really a large! Great value. Unlike chains.) and do a little light shopping for the fam last night and while waiting, thought I would check out electronics department. As I was looking at prices on printer cartridges, a 30's something gentleman in a light blue shirt approached and asked if he could help. His shirt said "Tech Advice". I was surprised and didn't know that Sam's offered that. He explained:

" Right now we are hiring qualified people, like myself, to assist customers in each store. Currently there are 5 of us that roam the different stores, but eventually I will get back to my home store when all in place. We all have extensive background in this area and are well versed to answer any of your questions on products." He also stated, "As a 'Plus Member', same price as Costco, we give an extra one year warranty on all of our electronics."

Although I buy my printer ink online, I was curious about the prices, still a little higher, but cheaper than , 'you know who?' and asked him a few questions about that ( He winked and told me he buys OEM on ebay : )) and then got onto BEST BUY. This was very informative for me..I asked, "What do you think of BEST BUY?"

He said; " I have a friend that is a manager at a store. He told me that, "They were extremely busy during Black Friday and the week leading up to Christmas. Many people wait til last minute and are worried about shipping from online. But, that half of the time throughout the year they are DEAD. The time to make some big numbers is the holidays now, didn't used to be that way. More and more people are shopping online and traffic is getting much lighter". He said, "WE DESPERATELY NEED TO DOWNSIZE"

After that, I said, " I appreciate that, but what are YOUR thoughts about Best Buy?" He basically said. " In my opinion, many of salespeople don't know what they are talking about when you ask them advice. I know the technical answers and most people don't. So, they wouldn't know if it was correct or not. Many are young kids training on the job with little experience. It's the same thing you find at Target and others in their electronics department." He also said, " They sell a lot of accessories that are junk and marked up too high. My friend, the manager, doesn't even get his products there with his discount" At that point, it was time for me to go and I thanked him for his informative opinion and left.

If you believe this experience was all fiction, I understand. But, why don't you call your local Sam's Club, if you have one, and verify that they are hiring techies? I'm sure the rest will follow. After hearing all that, it just reaffirms my belief: BEST BUY BIZ MODEL IS DEAD. : i
