interesting idea as i have said, both will have to run alot of intermodel trains to make up for the loss on coal revenue and i figure the csx is similar to the nsc and doesn't have the track capacity for that many trains, but a merger could work, but who's keeping the unp from coming in and buying one up.
I assume you mean NSC. A matter of when? I remember hearing this when I started in '66.
I guess you didn't get the election results yet. Mitt LOST.
Until we have a President that is pro-monopoly we will have two major RR's East of the Mississippi.
I look for the next round of mergers (if it ever happens) to be between the Eastern and Western systems. Logistically it would make much more sense. My prediction CSX+BNSF, CNI+KSU, and NSC+UNP with CP being the odd man out and most likely retrenching to lines West of the Great Lakes Region.
...i expect to see thing in the next 4-years that didn't work the first time around. sirius/xm is a prime example...and yes i did mean NSC thank you for understanding the main point of the message... it just appears they will both be in the same boat going forward due to a number of the same issues, such as growth and bottom lines...must protect their retired members.
