    • The cycle is just beginning - I like AFOP, FNSR, and CIEN. Beat and raise has been the trend, and it could continue for several quarters or years.

      JDSU not so much.

      • CIEN Upgraded today
RBC Capital‘s Mark Sue today reiterates an Outperform rating on shares of fiber-optic networking equipment maker Ciena (CIEN), and raises his price target to $28 from $24, and sees upside past $33, after having sat down to a meeting yesterday with the company and with investors, at which the company served “beef, more beef, and stuffed peppers,” he writes.

Sue concludes the company can benefit from the broad ongoing shift to “packet-optical” networks from traditional SONET.

Sue sees the company in an enviable position relative to Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) and Cisco Systems (CSCO):

Momentum in the business remains strong and the growth in orders is giving Ciena increased confidence heading into FY14. Considering the challenged state of Alcatel-Lucent and the security concerns in certain Western countries related to Huawei, Ciena may be gaining incremental market share, while the cost benefits of its packetized optical equipment can provider better economics when compared to router vendors such as Juniper and Cisco. While the business continues to remain lumpy and seasonal, we believe that the variability in the guidance may now reduce off its higher revenue base. Ciena believes that it can grow faster than the market’s expected growth rate of mid-to-high single-digit range. Ciena’s backlog was $900M at the end of last year and the backlog is expected to be well above that level at the end of FY13. Investors should note that Ciena reports its backlog on an annual basis.

    • The price of this stock has built in the demand for the next 3 years. Pleae be wise and careful. Shorts are going to kill the longs.

Good Luck and put a stop.
