It's just a matter of time before Scott Hamann declares the 20.1% NICS growth for Apr as proof that gun demand is unsustainable. He'll cite Jan (+81.2%), Feb (+32.0%), Mar (+27.9%), and Apr (+20.1%) as decelerating growth. The trend is still intact however, it just needs a smoothing moving avg. applied to it, due to the extraneous circumstances of the Pres O gun grab attempt.
If you google NICS and select the FBI website you can access the monthly background check data. In the lower right corner of the NICS webpage there are several reports. One of them shows the total monthly numbers 1.7mil versus 1.3 mil last April. Check out the data by state... They screwed up the KY data. The data for KY has been hovering around 230k to 240k for the past few months. They used 39k for April (in the 1.7mil number). I bet it was supposed to be 239k. I added up all the state numbers and fixed this typo (239k instead of 39k). As expected, it increased from 1.7 to 1.9mil. I tried to contact NICS by email, but they have none listed. I did email NSSF.
