    Why The Silence You Ask?

Many people on this board are questioning why the company (SYNA) has chosen to remain quiet about the rumors that they will be losing the Apple business. While I have no specific knowledge as to the reason(s) that SYNA has remained silent, I would like to point out one thing.

Apple is a very secret company. They go to great lengths to protect their product development secrets and suppliers. A lot more so than other companies in the same sector. Apple has recently gone so far as suing enthusiast websites that provide "inside information" about their products. Most recently with Thinksecret.com.

When the new iPod Shuffle was announced it was rumored that Portalplayer had lost the business to Sigmatel. However, neither Apple or Portalplayer or Sigmatel have made any announcement about which company provides the audio controller for the iPod Shuffle. The most likely reason is that they have signed agreements with Apple that forbid them to make any announcements about design wins in Apple products.

It would appear that SYNA may be under the same type of relationship with Apple. They are probably forbidden by contract to make any announcements regarding Apple products.

Therefore, I would not expect an announcement by Apple or Synaptics any time soon regarding the rumor which has affected Synaptics share price considerably.

Hey idiot, portalplayer DID NOT lose the business to sigmatel. Portalplayer was not a provider of flash player chips at the time shuffle was developed or announced. About a month ago they announced for the first time ever they would start looking at the flash player market starting at 1 or 2 gb because they focus on sorting large amounts of music and flash is finally affordable at 1gb and above. They are a software/firmware AND chip company that does NOT as a rule deal with low end flash players as they dont have enough files to interest them.
They were 100% HDD chip makers in '04 and they DID NOT LOSE business to shitmatel.
Sigmatel makes most of the tiny flash players in asia and a couple hdd players.

Dude, just because syna loses business it has, dont compare that with dissing portalplayer for not getting business it ever wanted or even was in MORON.

Please get back to me, id love to hear your bs story in rebuttle to my facts

    • As I have pointed out before, they don't even need to mention Apple. All they have to do is use the standard verbage:

"We are unaware of any reason for the recent drop in our share price."

Perhaps their silence is more about arrogance than anything else.

Unfortunately, even the standard verbage above could expose them to lawsuits. Company's have to be extremely careful these days with overzealous class action lawyers.
