NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks opened lower on Monday, as profit-taking ahead of the upcoming earnings season offset the boost from several merger deals, including a $1.9 billion acquisition by General Electric Co., and signs of recovery in commodities prices.
"People are waiting to see how earnings come out and they are on the look-out for pre-announcements," said Kevin Kruszenski, head of sales trading at KeyBanc Capital.
