    GG looking to buy AUY?

    Does anybody know?

    • I say "no," GG is not looking to buy AUY.

Goldcorp's strategy is mainly North and South America, which would seem to favor AUY and DEZ. Of course it is pure speculation on my part, but I doubt goldcorp is looking to expand in Brazil because they already have a presence there with Amapari. Brazil's currency is strong right now, which tends to be negative towards gold mining. If AUY had a silver bonus, it might be different. Chapada does have a copper play, though, which fits the Wheatie strategy.

I expect a US or Australian acquisition to replace aging Wharf and Peak mines. Mexico seems to be a longshot from a diversity standpoint. There are three Mexico properties: San Martin, San Dimas, Los Filos. However, as JC points out, goldcorp might see El Limon as such a strategic play that it cannot be ignored, diversity be damned. I would not rule out a stronger Canadian presence either, esp. in conjuction with Red Lake.
