    FDR, Constitution

    Well,

Judging from the arguments that have appeared on this general subject, it appears that most of the responders are pissed off at life in general. Some of them admit to being eletists that do not trust in the average person. Government is for the few not the many. Sounds like they do too much listening to Rush Limbaugh and that Bill O'Reilly character on MSNBC. It just seems to gall some people when someone else has something.

Maybe it has to do with sin being a more appealing argument than hope. Suspect your neighbor. Don't trust him. He might steal from you some day. Greed. "That black, welfare cheating, ghetto living drug dealer with her 10 kids on welfare driving a BMW is responsible for the country being the way it is today. Probably a pinko, commie sypm socialist." If someone else has a chance to get an even break, I won't have them all. If some group of people gain some opportunity for themselves, then I won't have it all. Fear. Suspicion. Greed. Distrust. Envy. This is the kind of logic used by Rush and Bill. It's easy to throw rotten apples at others and make outrageous statements that have little sense to them. Sadly, many people believe this stuff as the truth.

Liberalism was a message of hope. Hope for a better tommorrow. To the ill clad, ill housed and ill fed, a chance to survive, eat and have clothes on their backs. Hope to be able to vote without harrassment or having to pay a tax before you can vote at the polls. Hope for racial equality so you didn't have to ride in the back of the bus. To eat at a lunch counter like white people do. A good education. College or trade school. Student loans. More skills to be self responsible and independent. Decent healthcare. To be able to live in your old age without having to rely on your children to support you in your elderly years. Social Security. Medicare for the elderly. Medicade health care for the poor who have no money to pay for themselves. Banks that will not fail and so they won't lose their life savings, or put their money in the mattress. Good securities laws to make less likely that we won't have another Great Depression. Rural Electrification so that the farmers have power and don't have to read by oil lamps or do as much back breaking manual labor. Flood control. TVA. The ability for labor to organize and bargain collectively so that people can hope to increase their standard of living, or at least try to keep up with inflation. I could go on and on with more, but you get the picture.

Without us "liberals" it would be a much different America than it is today.

Thank God for FDR and the liberals of the '60's. We owe all of them a lot of gratitude.

    Go longs.

    • Also add to the fact like 95 percent of the federal budget goes to families making over 50K a year, and I would be willing to bet 95 percent of the laws benefit rich people most. And I would be willing to bet 95 percent of the oil, gas, wood on public lands goes to families making over 50K a year. Only like 1 kid of congress is in Iraq.
Seems the poor get the shaft.

      • A big % of the budget goes to social security, benefits all the old people, and SSI scammers.

A big % goes to Medicare with benefits to all old people, and a ton of scam artists.

A big % goes to Military families in salary, free medical, and retirement pay.

A significant % of the budget goes to paying interest, which benefits the Japanese and Chinese, except they get a low interest rate like near 2 percent so that's a pretty good deal. Until they price their currency correctly, debt is a good thing since they are essentially paying for the US military with near interest free debt.

A big % goes to paying for the 18 million federal employees who for the most part don't do squat, other than to process paper from other federal employees -- most make around 30K.

The poor have always made up your basic troops since the beginning of time. In fact the current US military is actually a noticeable departure from history on this point, because high tech requires highly educated pilots ... look at who got killed in Gulf 1 and 2, Afghan --> a high percentage had college degrees.

        Tz says:

How does 95% of the federal budget go to families making >$50k a year? The rich are the ones paying all the taxes. The reason why is because the poor don't have the money. It's simple math, really -- even if a rich guy pays only 10% of his "real" income as tax (it's low due to tax shelters, right-wing-conspiracy dealings in the Caymans, etc) that's still a LOT more than the blue-collar guy with a $30k a year job.

95% of the laws benefit rich people most? Now THAT'S an unfounded assertion. Where is your proof?

95% of the oil, gas wood on public lands goes to families making over $50k a year? I doubt it. Tons of non-rich people NEED the oil and gas and wood and they use it.

Regarding 1 kid of Congress in Iraq, I don't know if that's true or not but if it is I wouldn't be surprised. It would just be further validation that Congresspeople are the way we've always thought they are.

      • Amen brother.

      • Hey mental dildo...

You forgot that the armed services are voluntary now. If someone chooses to sign up, it has no relation at all to a relative in politics.

    • <<It's easy to throw rotten apples at others and make outrageous statements that have little sense to them.>>

Yea????? as you sit there throwing rotten apples and making outrageous statements that make little sense??.. Do you listen to yourself?? Do I need to identify the rotten apples for you?

You?re a typical liberal????.. you think you have a monopoly on compassion and all others that don?t agree with you???? how did you put it???. ?sin is more appealing to us?, ?we don?t trust our neighbor?, ?Greed????. Rush Limbaugh is mild compared to you??.. Look in the mirror!!

Liberalism isn?t a message of ?Hope?????. It?s a message of ?dependency.? Without you liberals perhaps we wouldn?t have to work for more than ?FIVE MONTHS? a year just to pay our taxes???? without you liberals, perhaps we wouldn?t have to get LOANS to put our children thru college as the government is using OUR money to put others thru college??? without you liberals, perhaps we could train the poor, the jobless, the homeless to depend upon themselves and thus giving them ?Hope? that they can make a better future for THEMSELVES.

I could go on and on???? but you get the point. We owe the liberals something, however, I doubt that I would call it gratitude.

      Easy
