Phil Gramm was the POS who engineered the deregulation of banking industry
Senator Gramm led the repeal of key portions of ghe Glass-Stegall ACT that passed in 1933 under FDR and served extremely well until Gramm and the GOP and the bankers ripped it apart in 1999. You have to remember that the majority GOP passed it, but Bill Clinton signed the changes despite the opposition of most of his party. Our problems today and for the forseeable future are mostly the result of that irresponsible legislation. Legislation similar to the original Glass-Stegall will have to be passed and signed in 2009. JMHO.
