In response to the pay issue, I just attended the last SpaceX launch with a large group of the folks from SpaceX. These are the folks who design the most advanced rockets in the world, bar none. The next version of their rocket will have a booster which returns to the launch pad.
When I was leaving the event, I noticed the cars they were driving were more or less beaters...out of the maybe 100 cars I saw nothing high-end or luxury....
I know people from SpaceX work very long hours and leaving at 5pm is frowned upon.
In the US, we spend more on education than just about anyone, yet we trail other industrialized nations in education...
I like John the Baptist's response when questioned by a group of Roman soldiers:
"And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages."
I think the folks at Silicom should be glad they are there!
