Slop, great quarter all around for Brink

I thought you said On The Border was down double digits-they
ended up down less than 1%--Great News there and alot better than what Don Pablos and the others are reporting.

    • I did say back in late Nov. that On the Border
was having double digit negative SSS. I report what I
hear. They must have had a huge menu price increase.
That will inflate the numbers every time. Not sure
about that but I will check.

      So what was
missing? No news on Maggiano's, Corner Bakery, or
Cozymel's. Notice the projected store openings for Corner
Bakery; there were 11 in the second qtr and there are
only 3 projected for the 3rd qtr. Looks like someone
opened the oven and the bread has fallen.

surprised to see the zero projected openings for
Maggiano's, those suckers are expensive to open and EAT has
admitted they will not open them as aggresively as the
other concepts. I wonder if they omitted Maggiano's
sales number because they do not have good numbers to
report - would make sense to beat your drum if you have
a good drum to beat, right?

      Strong Chili's
and Macaroni Grill numbers (what? I don't get credit
for that Imitation - but you ding me on the On the
Border numbers <grin>) As long as Chili's and
Macaroni Grill keep forging ahead and On The Border pulls
themselves up, EAT should have a very good year. Shrinking
labor pool, increases in minimum wage and a few other
external pressures could put a strain on the bottom line.
And don't forget about those under performing
concepts - they are not cheap to ditch unless they find a

I think the trading range for EAT in the next six
months will be $24 - $29 with all things constant.

      • Eat can't be all bad. Bear likes them.

      • quarters numbers. I will give you the fact that
        Corner Bakery
        has some problems-what does that
        represent 2% of company sales.
I will take the good news
on the other 98% any day. As far as
        Eatzis and
Maggionos-I think they will do fine in the right locations-Im
not worried about them and even if there are problems
Chilis, Macoroni Grill and to a lessor extent
        On The
Border will drive this company for the next 5
anyway. With other chains faltering and
Star,Boston Market etc) and limited capital available and

few IPOs,I see Brinker doing extremely well for the
        next 5 years
even if Corner Bakery doesnt work out.

      • ...for the next few days.

Washingtonians get their first look at an Eatzi's
opens tomorrow in suburban Rockville, Maryland.
Washington Post has written some interesting
comments which will certainly put the crowds
        into the

This is an educated group here and there will be
inquiries as to who owns Eatzi's and and a clamour to

own the stock. The fact that the Maggiano's ,
Bakery, and Macaroni Grill have been well received here

as part of the company will

many people to seek out and buy the stock.

we will see 29 again quite soon....
        then that
        "downhill slope" again
        into the early Spring.
