Sold short 5 lots last week at 80 1/2 and covered
today at 71 1/2 for a tidy little gain of 4,500 (after
taxes & commisions etc would be ~ 2,700)

Not bad
for a couple days "work". Would I do this again?
NO!
(I learned a little bit about my risk
tolerance)

Now, I think I'll use these proceeds to help pay for a
nice vacation.

I made a point of remembering the names
"Sycamore" and "Cyras" when Cisco purchased Cerent and
Monterey. At this point anything optical will shoot to the
moon, and Sycamore will be no exception. Given the
hefty price tag Cisco applied to Cerent, this one iwll
be justified (look at Juniper). Their products allow
for an instant upgrade of a traditional ATM/FR/IP
network to support 2.5 Gbps speeds. Their management
boasts a CEO seasoned from Ascend and bought-out
companies now with NorTel. Optical technology is still in
its infintile stages, and startups like these will
either emerge as industry monsters, or be bought out at
the right price. I still recommend JDS over any of
these optical switch/router companies. I'll look at the
Fortune article.

Have you heard of a company named Sycamore
networks??
They are involved w/ optical neworking w/ local
exchanges, are due to IPO this week, and have symbol SCMR.

Looks like a good time to put a little of that
cash to work.By reading the boards everyone believes
that the market is going lower.Although the nasdaq
could in fact go very lower I think you have to be a
selective buyer at these levels.Just a little though.Good

I've already commented here before about Hi/fn,
so I'm sure you can search and find more in-depth
comments. Here's a quick sum-up:
I can't predict what
will happen in the next 6-12 months, but I'd deem it
safe to say that VPNs wil become preavlent within the
next few years and Hi/fn is an excellent way to play
that trend. At these current levels, I do see a "big
reward" possible, but patience must be exercised with
this company, it's very young, and VPNs haven't yet
reached great acceptance. Just be patient...

Sorry, I'm going to busy tonight with the Vitesse
CC. Since basically every covering analyst has at
least a buy rating on all Comm ICs, I'd probably
generally agree with him anyway. These interviews don't
normally get very detailed, so don't feel bad about not
hearing it-sort of a prolonged CNBC special.

With excellent earnings, the stock will quickly rise !!

In case you haven't noticed, not only the market
in general, but VTSS is acting very similar to last
year. Right now, VTSS is bumping down to its long term
trend line, just like last year before it plunged 50%
in just a few days! With such a sick market, looks
like a good time to take a short position to protect
those gains we've made this year. Good luck.

Could you please comments on HIFN in regard to
the latest drop in the stock price and the outlook
for the next 6-12 months in view of the explosive
growth of VPN.
Do you see any big reward
