Funny to see posters yell STRONG BUY. This stock was mentioned in Barrons in 1986 because of the value of its assets were way more than the stock price ( if i remember right about 19).Its as if these posters are suddenly discovering the stock and see the value and think THEY are going to get some of it.Management has done nothing to benefit the shareholders that I can discern- ALCO has always been the same story. So for the cheerleaders who are pushing the stock- stedman lacich etc tell the board something NEW that will make this a decent investment.
That humongous jump you see in the stock price in Feb. 2001 occurred is a result of a favorable write-up in Barron's that week:http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=ALCO&d=c&t=5y&l=on&z=b&q=lValue in these land-holding companies sometimes gets realized really quickly when it occurs. Good if you bought right before that happens. Not so good maybe if you've had to wait years.
