I sold most of my ALICO some time ago. I thought about buying back in but now I'll pass. One rule I follow is only invest in stocks with clear and transparent disclosures. So I looked at the last annual report to see what the top officers are getting paid. Well, the annual report doesn't say. Unusual. Then I looked to see how much stock the officers own. There is some cryptic information, but it really doesn't say. Then I read this: John R. Alexander continues to serve on the Company’s Board of Directors as Chairman. Mr. Alexander’s son, JD Alexander, serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Atlanticblue and in February 2010, was appointed as Alico’s President and Chief Executive Officer. JD Alexander also continues to serve on Alico’s Board of Directors. Robert E. Lee Caswell, Mr. John R. Alexander’s son-in-law, also serves on the Alico Board of Directors, as does Robert J. Viguet, Jr., who is also a Director of Atlanticblue (the “Affiliated Directors”).
So, very secretive and leadership passed down through the family, rather then to talented people.
Sorry, it just doesn't give me that warm and cuddly feeling.
