I'd suggest you read them again - not only is this "default testing", as already pointed out, but specifically this is "leak testing" - which is something you can configure Norton to do, but is not it's main purpose.
Comparing a dedicated firewall product like ZoneAlarm to a general security suite like Norton is daft - ZoneAlarm is rubbish at virus detection, but a great firewall, so I use both (or at least, I did before giving up Windows completely and switching to virus-free Ubuntu).
