No shares to short
My broker has not shares of GRPN to short. Is anyone else having the same problem. Looks like an awesome short opportunity this afternoon...

Yes buying puts or selling calls is an alternative but you pay a premium with options and they have a high volatiliy premium priced in. I prefer pur shorting versus trying to simulate the trade with options. But, I may have to give up and use options instead as you suggest...

At the open, sell in the money calls. You can sell as many as you like, up to 1000 contracts. Thats 100K short shares, or over 1 million dollars of shortable stock. Best luck!

Yes sometimes better lucky than good. I am now so glad I couldn't find any shares to short today :)
I really dodged a bullet.
Congrats to longs. Looks like a nice bounce for you tomorrow. I still will be looking to short (now at a higher price) because long-term GRPN business model is not sustainable. Too easy to copy what they do.

I can confirm that the shares are hard to borrow at my brokerage.

I have accounts at scottrade and interactive brokers and can't get any shares to short form either one...
Usually interactive brokers always have shares to short.
