When they made fun of the building’s prior occupant, Montgomery Ward as reported in Business Week 7/12/2012 they brought a curse on themselves and all employees were finally doomed in their quest for the riches of stock options:
“In Groupon’s Chicago main office, which used to be Montgomery Ward’s headquarters, staffers famously created and maintained a furnished living space called Michael’s Room. The gag was that the resident was a fictional “monstrous manchild” named Michael who was said to be a descendant of Aaron Montgomery Ward.”
So just like the curse of the Billy Goat on the Chicago Cubbies, the curse remains on this company no matter who the CEO is. They must remove the curse by consulting some of the former MW employees who were initiated into this culture of Aaron Ward (like the “Skull & Bones” one at Yale) and the rituals to be done, and no it doesn’t involves burning Mason at the stake.
