Fact a Patent(s) is "Old" or in a seemingly Mundane Tech Sector Doesn't Mean there is a vein of Gold.
There are many patents which have already passed through much of their life which if you could obtain them now, would make you independently wealthy for the rest of your life. That is what is happening with Splunk and it is misinformed to think otherwise.

Things like present value of discounted cash flow, declining sequential growth, massive massive share dilution, huge negative EBITDA and margin compression all must be considered. Management understands the outrageous valuation that has no peer in terms of foolish valuation.

you know those two useless patents purchased solely to mislead investors. indexing patent along with R Newman do nothing to create a moat or add financial value to any company. useless garbage has nothing to do with nothing.
