Electroporation has been around for 30 yrs, but has only been used for neural muscular therapy, osmotic intake of drugs through fragile organ membranes (like an eye). On the cellular level, it is brand new technology. 10 yrs is nothing. On the synthetic DNA level it is double brand new. Less than 7. As a matter of fact straight out of Wikipedia:

The founder of cellular uptake of pharmaceuticals. He worked on the technology for 30 yrs but small molecule pharmaceuticals were too big or did not have the correct polarization end points to cause a successful polarity attraction which would allow direct permeation through a cell wall membrane. You see, what happened was along comes synthetic DNA. It allowed scientists to create peptides (peptoys) with the CORRECT molecule configuration to pull---the drug--molecule accrossto the other side of the membrane. Now I can go on and on about the potassium and sodium pump and how it works and why protein polarity works now and didn't before, also why it worked better in primates before and not humans. A matrix of tested polarity sequences made that story ~ water under the bridge. It now works as well on humans. So, it is nothing but a matter of tweaking recipe's and acquiring the right ingredients.
Me. I worked at Biogen Idec for two years as a senior protein formulations scientist. As a matter of fact you can thank me in part for Liquid Avonex. As an intern I discovered the optimum pH suspension of a very complex and fragile igG. It's so stable now the excipient formulation allows the proteins to keep their shape for 10x longer in more severe environments. Biogen-Idec is now 250 PPS. So, when I say this company has something new and exciting and very promising, it is.
