Another week has come and gone for those of us on the INO message board. We came off a close on Friday Feb 28th of $3.29 to start the week, our Monday as promised by many on this board proved to be a little exercise in tree shaking for those with weak hands – the stock traded in a wide range from a low of $3.00 to a high of $3.55. The downside was strong in the first hour or so of trading before taking a nice climb upwards during and after Dr. Kim spoke at the Cowen and Company Conference. His answer to the only question that was recorded on the presentation was that the offering had indeed been completed and information would be forthcoming very soon. That seemed to signal to those that were interested – that buying the stock now might not be a bad thing to do – so they did and we closed the day at the high of the day - $3.55 on 13.7M shares. Dr. Kim’s presentation should be listened to and re-listened to by those of us that follow this stock closely – the presentation was solid but what I really ended up focusing on the three times I have listened to the presentation was the level of genuine excitement in Dr. Kim’s voice….Perhaps the validation he felt after the share offering closed so quickly had him hyped up for the conference, but I felt it was much more than that….Critics of my writing would say – I’m overestimating what I heard and hyping this stock, but I would encourage you to listen for yourself and tell me your thoughts as I don’t believe I’m mistaken here….I’m not suggesting he knows anything about Phase II top line data – but I’m suggesting he knows his platform has legs and when he showed the slides concerning the assay data on primates and the JID data on humans he became even more animated. I thought the additional technical slides added a lot of value – they provide a greater depth of information and would provide even some of the most discerning of analysts and investors with enough data to ponder the possibilities. On to Tuesday – the pre market forecasted higher prices and some potential volatility during the trading day, but we actually traded in a relatively tight range from a low of $3.50 to a high of $3.70, we closed the day at $3.52 down 3 cents on the day with right at 9.2M shares changing hands. Wednesday was more of the same with the pre market forecasting a better day but volume for the day was down to 6.5M shares and the stock closing up 6cents to $3.58 on the day. After the market closed there was an article posted from Seeking Alpha concerning a recent interview with the Biotech Research Group. Just a personal opinion – but I like the questions that this group asks – they really summarize the collective mindset that this message board has had since the announcement of the share offering. I thought Dr. Kim’s responses were very forthcoming and never once did he give an evasive reply. The key takeaway for me was that the offering was in fact done for the reasons that we wanted to hear: in no order – 1). The additional funds provide leverage in future negotiations with big pharma on potential partnerships. 2). The market provided an opportunity that management felt they needed to take advantage of. 3) They have technologies that have been recently highlighted (aka monoclonal antibody and DNA based cytokines at immune activators) that now can be advanced with this fund raising. 4). It allows them to better prepare for phase III. Etc.etc.etc…..One of the key points in the interview talked to the type of buyers of the offering – Dr. Kim emphasized that this round did NOT include warrant coverage and was subscribed to by blue chip biotech institutional investors. On to Thursday – with the strength of the interview we did see some pre market action suggesting another good day – but that proved short lived and the stock traded in a relatively tight range from $3.50 to $3.71 with just 6.9M shares changing hands and finishing down on the day 7cents to $3.51. Which brings us to today – we close the day at $3.40 – down 11 cents for the day on just 6.2M shares traded. When you look at the entire week we ended up 11cents or 3.34% from the previous Friday’s close. We have now spent 51 trading days at or above $2.40 (with the last 11 sessions over $3) – during those 51 days we have traded right at 399M shares with an average price per share of $3.02. So if you go back and look at the trends we were averaging $2.20-2.40 as our baseline, then it moved to $2.67, then $2.90ish, now $3.02 with almost twice the entire outstanding shares traded in the last 51 sessions. Lastly as I have said before I report the good and the bad – the XBI thru yesterday sold 192K shares net on the week. As of this writing they have 8,526,024 shares of INO – 2.08% weight in fund top holdings. I do expect more volatility and tree shaking absent any announcements from the company – but what we know is we have established a base price that has continued to go higher – the number of shares traded at these prices is very significant. And what we also know is we are only a few short months away from Phase II top line data, as well as data on recently completed studies and the potential of another partnership or partnerships …All IMHO….coop
