I'm a realtively new investor in PTY and need a better understanding of their Q1 results. My initial read is as follows for the common shareholders:
Q1 Net investment income - $.43 Q1 Dividends paid ($.115 *3) - $.34
Excess of earned over paid - $.09
Net unrealized gains - $1.17
Notwithstanding that unrealized gains can later be unrealized losses, this number appears huge. Coupled with a subsequent decline in long term rates (i.e., treasury bonds), is it not the case that Q2 gains (realized and unrealized) could also be very large.
Can someone with more expertise than I have please comment and correct any errors on my part.
With the caveat that what I post should not be considered "expertise", I'd say you have it right.
Of course, the market this month has taken down the NAV quite a bit, though it is still up a bit the quarter after considering the dividends having gone out of the NAV. You can follow the NAV using the symbol XPTYX.....Dave
