    • Is there any rhyme or reason as to why ROMA is up over 60% from the IPO, yet larger thrifts like ESSA, BNCL, ORIT, etc. are up to a much lesser degree or even down? I used to think that the bigger the better, but have questioned that logic.

      • me too ! market is not always right i am betttin have sold into this buyback and bought the cheaper thrfits mentioned the price difference seems way to wide even if you think roma is better (which it is ) but is like 7 bucks better all things equal ???? i like ESSA BNCL ABBC these new issues are weak where as roma has buybacks and a mess of shorts i took the liquidity in roma and bot where there is no liquidity and lots of sellers.....i have no idea if this is right , but i feel i own more value i just absolutely luv sub book action !!!! luv buying a dollar for 90cents for large urban bank like BNCL !!!!!!! yummie in my tummy ! joco

      • Yes there are two reasons for the Roma stock to do better than the other similar ones:

        1. Roma location, management style is good and they kind of do things in a textbook style way. In this regard, Roma and others may be similar, except there may be a difference of degree.
        2. The more important reason is that there is an investor holding the management feet to fire. Remember the proxy intervention recently. Roma granted the 6 cents dividends because an investor was strong enough to cause ripples and management acted with responsibility. And Roma has started the buy back program aggressively. Try talking to any of the other similar banks. Their management is interested in keeping all the money they raised in the IPO even if they cannot use it profitably and keep all the earnings, do minimal buy backs and try to depress the stock price so they can benefit from lower priced options. Their management has a vested interest in keeping the stock price low
