For those that are, Martin IMO has filled a critical missing ingredient. For the last few years NY has needed a banger type PF (ala Charles Oakley) and the Knick die hards knew it. Carmelo and Smith doing what they do offensively alone will win ball games but consistency night in and night out at both ends of the court looks more playoff sound with the addition of that guy.
The front office got lucky on this one. If not for the injuries to Rasheed/Camby they may not have signed him at all based on rep rumors of his coachability. Ridiculous!
Even with Chandler out, points given up in the paint don't come in bunches like a layup drill for the opposition. Remember the hard foul KMART layed on a driving to the hoop Kevin Durant in OKC? He decked him and did it clean after the officials viewed the tape. Thats what I'm talking about!
The Carmelo-less (& Chandler as well) western swing aside, the veteran laden Knicks are actually gaining momo heading into playoff time especially with the list of injured scheduled to return and contribute.
Knicks @ full strength matches up well against any seed in the east, including IMO Miami!
I too like the addition of KMart. He's a great vet, despite his reputation for being kind of a jackass. He's no worse than Sheed. Bottom line is he can ball at a top level, even at 34. That being said, we NEED to get healthy. Playoffs are a whole seperate grind against great competition every night. This latest streak has only included 1 playoff team--the Grizzlies. We need Stat to get back and healthy as fast as possible. Likewise, we need Chandler at 110% if we are going to go anywhere. This team, as of now with all of the injuries, is a fun bunch, but not a team that can make it to the finals....
