The div yield is more like 13%. In any case, yes,it's great but compared to what? Agnc yields 19%. Cys yields 19.4%. Ivr yields 18.5% not so good when compared to these other reits.
but compared to a cd paying 1% it's a great yield. But you got to know when to get into a reit and when to get out. I'm sure you already know this.
I believe that CIM invests more in variable rate and less in fixed rate. It is my understanding that the other companies you mentioned are more in fixed. CIM will provide more protection when interest rates rise. If you are a longer term investor, CIM is a better place to be.
If you trade in and out the way some of these self proclaimed geniuses claim to, then you may try to scalp a little more yield. It is my experience that you only need to make one mistake like the one with AGNC for it all to fall apart. Today the stock dropped an extra dollar while going XD because of the new offering. No way to paint that pretty!
Just for the record I also have positions in NLY, CYS & AGNC. I am adding to CIM.
