    Dick's has lots of room to expand

    Looking at the Web site store map...Dick's has only expanded into half of the states, not including Texas, Florida or California, which are all big Gen Y populations. Other than the baby boomers, the current teen market is the biggest for retailers.

    This company is still in its early growth stage with much upside potential over the next several years and beyond. Plus the older store remodelings are WONDERFUL!

    • cherry, have you had the opportunity to see one of the 2-level store models located in a regional mall? There is one in the Mall at Robinson, just outside of Pittsburgh and virtually within sight of the corporate headquarters. It was built to spec for Dick's a year or 2 after the mall opened. It seems the perfect way to leverage location and eyeballs rather than going the freestanding route. The 10-K refers to a 75,000 sq. ft. prototype growth vehicle versus the standard 48,000 and 30,000 sq. ft. stores they've built heretofore. I imagine the mall store is one of these prototypes. I believe it's a winner. All of your favorite Dick's features on a grander scale.

        Robinson Center is the location closest to the Pittsburgh Airport and the one I have made several simple purchases and even simpler returns at. No questions asked. These associates were happy and truly friendly associates willing to give you a hand and help decide what you need and why. After all, retailing will always be about servicing the customer. It was one of the most pleasurable shopping experiences I have ever had. I guess I am just a jock at heart who wants to be waited on.

        When are the other retailers going to get with this program?


    • Agreed! Much room for expansion and they are going about it in the correct way, backfilling exsisting areas and opening stores in new areas. This is the tip of the iceberg! DKS has their competition reeling now, just wait until more stores are open that furthur negatively effect the sales/profits of competitors. Several of DKS's competitors have been enjoying the lack of cometition...but this is coming to an end soon, Galan's and TSA are getting nailed by new DKS openings...all this means more sales and profits for DKS and less for the competition. Not a bad story to an already very strong beginning and finacial sheet! This ones a keeper....go long!
