I don't want to get too into religious smack here, but in a historical sense, Roman Catholicism is just the re-incarnatino of the Roman empire, a-la the Constantin holy Roman empire, taught by lion-devoured martyrs.
Early Catholics struck so much scripture from the gospels (e.g. Thomas, Mary, and such) as to be editors of whatever faith served their purpose. Go do your history and look at how many king's asses got kicked by armies run by whatever pope (emperor) was in power at the time. Dante Alighieri put them all in hell with Judas and inspired the purgatory Milton Hell idea to say that it was just plain "wrong" Luther perfected the message.
Humanity has its own technical analysis and FUNDAMENTAL analysis, from which all truth flows. The message is never as simple as you are attempting to make it.
Read the Roman-stricken Gospel of St. Thomas (doubting Thomas, a disciple), and tell me what you think. ("The Kingdom of God is inside you and all around you. Split a piece of wood and I'm there. Lift a stone and you will find me.") Dogma is the crutch of a crippled and feeble mind. Fegg, are you out there inspiring this, like through your e-mail to me? :) !
Jesus reformed Judaism, as Luther reformed Catholicism. Then there's John Wesley and others, and that which are called "cults" today from whatever interpretation you like. It just doesn't matter. Live and let live. "Even the Jordan river has bodies floatin'" Live and let live.
