Brett opines, " Reagan will go down in history as one of the best presidents this country has ever had, love it or hate it.
Bush will not.
I have to agree on Reagan, but IMHO, the jury is still out on Bush. If Kerry is elected and fails to complete the job Bush started in Iraq(or Bush himself blows it), history will treat him poorly. How ever, if Iraq turns the middle east toward democracy, he will be in the top 10.
<<How ever, if Iraq turns the middle east toward democracy, he will be in the top 10.>>
To me, this is the essence of the gamble that Bush is taking. If the US succeeds in planting a viable democracy in the middle of the Middle East, this will be a BIG WIN for America and world peace in general. That is precisely why entrenched interests are working so hard that is should *not* be a success.
What's sad is that many of our supposed allies and the media (and the academics) don't have the courage or foresight to understand what is truly in their long term best interests: peace, religious tolerance and stable democracies across the world working together for the good of all.
