    • Yes, I'm worried and testy but I do hear you. I want UBL and his ilk dead more than you can imagine. I'm sick of war and especially this one because I believe our incursion established a focal point for the creation of a bigger monster than the one that attacked us on 911.

I apologize for the ephithet. If you knew me, you'd know that isn't characteristic of my style.

And thanks for the kind words regarding our childrens' safety.

      Peace.

    • Son, I've been farther up in the air than you've been away from home. And I've been places and done things that you've only read about in history books, so save that bullshit for another army man who really cares.

But do me one favor please; thank both of your children for their service to this nation and tell them America is filled with people who support them l00%, wherever their commander sends them, and for whatever purpose.

If you can correspond here without attacking anyone personally, I'll be very happy to read your viewpoint. Calling someone you don't know "an asshole" is not a real good way to sustain a dialog.

    • "If you haven't already you'll never reach Keeper's definition of greatness."

There you go again speaking for me. Surf has said nothing to offend me, so I respect him, his opinions, and his experience, all of which he has a right to hold and to communicate. (People start with respect from me, and it is theirs to lose.)

Your desire to have me voluntarily censor myself to avoid doing harm to fellow longs *by the mere act of posting*, which causes the stock to go down (good God) is ludicrous at best.

Your idea of cause and effect is insipid. Your logic is completely brain dead. Vapid. Might it be that I only post messages when I am agitated?

Interacting with you is rather like this:

    • I realize that your to worked up for me to have a discussion with. I do understand your anxiety from having two of your kids in harms way. I felt similar anxiety when my brother was in Nam for the few days during the Tet offensive. He was a surgical tech. with a mash oufit out in the bush.

I was fortunate enough not to see combat because my tour of duty ended before Johnson sent ground troops in there. Closest I came was when we gave the Pathet Lao the ultimatum of agreeing to a cease fire or face American troops. We were training with some right wing cadre from Laos. The day came when we were packed up and ready to go. At that point, the Pathet Lao agreed to a cease fire and neuturalization of the country.
So I'm thankful for being spared the responsibility of killing people or seeing my freinds killed or maimed.

For me to explain my entire thoughts, pro and con of the war in South East Asia, I would literally have to write a book.

Unfortunately, I would have to do the same for the war going on in Iraq right now. I do look at the pro's and con's and do my best to weigh each against each other. I'm not a big fan of Bush or Cheny in case your wondering. They have nothing to do with my thought's.

If I sent your blood pressure soaring, it wasn't my intention and apologize for that.

The war in Iraq and discusions of the entire Middle East is a complex subject that is impossible to arrive at a conclusive discussion on this message board.

We all want Al Qaeda dead, and that's all most of us Americans can agree on.

    • "Because I don't see your viewpoint I'm the one with the closed mind?"

One should *see* another's differing viewpoint, although one must not necessarily agree with it.

To me, I would rather not debate, and would rather not argue. What I prefer is a calm rational *exploration* so that both sides might explore an issue. This requires maturity, an ability to communicate absent of dogma and bias, and many other qualities. THAT is what I would call an open mind.

Seeing is mandatory, and easy for most. The rest is almost impossible for most.

... and to rivvir, I didn't say that half the population couldn't tell their ass from their elbow, I said that half the population is of below average intelligence. Thanks for trying to put more agressive words in my mouth than I presented. If Ward Churchill knew what a Nazi was, he would call that Nazi style propaganda. Name someone t or some group to hate, andd tell the world that HE / THEY are the source of all your problems. Or call them a contrarian indicator. Get it?

    • Depending on when you were here, and what you liked about it, you MIGHT not like it today -- there has been a lot of development in the past 15 years. I would say that it has been good -- downtown is clean and safe, the old LoDo warehouse area is now a very busy restaurant/bar/loft area. Several counties around Denver have been the #1 and #2 population growth counties nationwide for several years. This happened simultaneously with the recovery from the 80s energy crash, and the local economy has diversified from energy to telecom, technology, and other industries. I like it here, except one has to travel to get to a beach or the ocean, or any other largish body of water.

    • I have to leave the house but I will answer you later.

God bless your children and keep them safe.

    • "advise" advice

    • Hey Surf, some unsolicited advise so you can stop reading at this point if you wish.

1-If you haven't already you'll never reach Keeper's definition of greatness.

2-One thing i hope i've finally learned for myself. The frustration you get for yourself over this probably isn't worth it, although i do hate letting some comments go by unchallenged. I don't want to make any big comparisons with any not too far off history, a time before vietnam, that wouldn't be anywhere near fair. But it's not all that far enough dissimilar to me to not note anything.

If you decide to continue, i wish you the best. However you decide to go, i wish you and your kids only the best.

      regards

    • Hi surf,

You have a lot at risk. I sure hope you get those kids back unharmed. I have kids. I sure would be more concerned than if I was there.

Thanks for your service to our country.

      ij
