Carbonite, Inc. (CARB) Message Board

First, the thing works beautifully, regardless of the financials, managment, competition, whatever. Does it satisfy a need. YES. For instance, in the new age of digital cameras, hearing horror stories of people who have lost everything, I backed up 16,000 photos along with all my other files in TEN DAYS. Yes, that's how long it took. Big problem, but one that Carbonite honestly said would happen, as that is the normal backup time initially. Yes, BIG PROBLEM, but one that will be solved as carriers frantically increase their bandwidth with the newer offerings this year. Then there is the projection that cloud-computing applications (I assume ythat this is one of the first) will increase 40 times in the next 4 years.

So what I can contribute hopefully is that Carbonite has a great product in an emerging and rapidly growing market and apparently has benefited from its massive advertising program, wheter or not you like it (I do as that is what made me a first time customer). So pioneers get the arrow in the back. We all know that. Have I invested in Carbonite? Not yet, but I waitied on Netflix, too, as an example, to my chagrin. I like to do the analysis first and to read and contribute to boards like ths is part of my learning experience. That said, Carbonite has definitely caught my eye.

    • I too am a customer...and love the product..bought it also for my small business. It is simple, easy and inexpensive peace of mind. I also after some thought became an investor of the company and will hold it long term...if nothing else I figure their customer base which continues to grow and they havent even touched the overseas markets, is worth placing a bet ...am long, long term...no intent on selling for years...

    • Hey, it's your money.

Speculate on CARB stock if you want!

Just be aware that it has never made any money and says explicitly that it has no plans to do so in the forseeable future!!

BTW, there are actually companies in the stock market that pay dividends and/or retain earnings!!!

This is genuine, good customer feedback on CARB.

Not sure I understand your reference to companies that pay dividends and have retained earnings. Seems that you are more familiar with these types of companies--maybe you should be posting on those, instead of companies like Carbonite, which are high growth companies with bright futures, something you clearly don't understand.

    • If you are considering investing in Carbonite you should know that the dot-com has lost $100 million over the past seven years and has been burning up $2 million per month of its remaining cash for the past two years.

Use the service, if you like.

But buy the stock only if you don't mind throwing your money into a financial "black hole."

There are companies within NASDAQ that make money and pay dividends. Carbonite is not one of those. It is on track to run out of money in about two years, making it a questionable investment.
