They've been lackluster because of anticipation of retail sales reports.
But this WAS an abnormal winter, and this time only, the weather excuses are valid. They are usually not. But the past couple of months, they were.
Despite higher gasoline prices, I think - judging from everyone I know - you fellas in big cities don't drive - that most of the country is so stir crazy after this miserable winter, there will be a resurgence in all sorts of retail and consumer discretionary acitivity starting about now, as the nationwide weather picture improves dramatically.
In my area - no Sonics yet - restaurants have been jam-packed this past week. Stores look to be picking up, too. And this coming summer should be a bonanza beach and short vacation period.
People who take public transportation can't begin to fathom how totally miserable a very snowy winter makes avid drivers and how much they want to bust out and drive, drive, drive when it's over.
