So I went to the big Target at the mall and asked where the soda's were. The lady stocking the shelves said they used to be here but the display had been taken down and replaced with mini fridges. I then went to customer service to find out what was going on. The rep looked up the sku and said it had been discontinued and they would not be getting anymore in. What?
I then drove to my local target that had sparse shelves last week and went to customer service. I asked about soda and what was happening. She told me that it was a seasonal item and they wouldn't be getting more until next holiday season. What about the syrup and Co2 I asked. She said Target was a seasonal store and carries seasonal products. Very confusing for me. Do you only sell blenders in August when people want margaritas? I then asked how they had sold and she said the entire display was full and now it's not. She said customers love it and had given it rave reviews. Makes no sense to not sell them the syrups and accessories year round right?
So here is my question. Does everyone know its carried seasonal at Target or is this news?
You were right Seth. Asked the wife to check for Soda's at the same store where I was told by customer service that it was discontinued and they would not be getting any more in. Had an entire end cap of them as special purchases. Lesson learned on taking the word of Target employee's when it comes to supply and inventory.
No, not everyone is privy to Targets biz model (re: seasonal items). It's very intelligent to conduct your research although if your considering owning shares of Sodastream & basing your decision on a Target employee I strongly suggest you pay a visit to the big boys who sell their products year round; that being: Costco, Bed Bath & Beyond, Sur La Table et al. to get a better handle on just how well Sodastreams machines are moving.
Here's something worthy of thought, in my local outdoor shopping center there are 3 stores which sit adjacent to eachother and are the top 4 grossing retail loc's of each of these co's. they are Apple, Lululemon & Sur La Table (high end kitchen retailer & primary competitor of Williams & Sonoma who have Sodastream displayed in their window display).
I am sorry you had problems with purchasing Soda products today and that you ran into some misinformed Target employees. NO, it is not a seasonal product for Target, they will be carrying Soda Stream products year round. Target's employees are mostly part-time and usually not well informed when it comes to in-stocks or even what they carry. Their inventory system is not always reliable either. The best thing to do in order to determine when that store will be getting more of the product in would be to either call to speak with the Store Manager or Executive Hard Lines Team Leader. They will be able to better assist you.
On a side note, Target utilizes a location inventory system that is uploaded into an RF handheld device. If the in store logistics team has poor "location accuracy", the product in the back room of the store may not register in the store's inventory and therefore the sales floor employees will not know where to find it in the back room. I know this sounds strange but thats just the way they control inventory and pull product from the back room to the floor. It is a problem that Target always has to contend with. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.
I stick with bed bath and beyond. the display is always full, neat and near the front. Full assortment of flavors, and i know all of my friends get their flavors at that store so I know they are selling and restocking, the stuff isnt just sitting there.
Yea I just did that and it said my mall where I was today has them in stock. It doesn't and they're not getting more in. I'm long stock and calls. I need to know if this is expected or if this is news. I had assumed they would be in Target year round. Help????
