I was in my local Walmart this week end and saw a Walmart Endcap setup memo left on the Sodastream endcap shelf. This is basically a two page memo that instructs the store personnel on what the product is all about, how to setup the endcap, and denotes what changes to the endcap are being implemented. Just thought I would share some of the highlights from the memo I had noted.
1) In Category Overview section: "Soda Stream is an EXCITING category for Walmart and is driving growth in the Home Division!"
2) In Merchandise Overview section: "includes new exciting flavors to add to the variety of options available to the customer"... goes on to explain the CO2 exchange. Not sure on the new flavors being introduced.
3) Category Adjacency: ensure not next to any other appliances... not hidden on a back end cap... ensure end cap is not moved around so customers always know where to find... "For every Machine sold, we are selling 10 syrups!"
i think i am going to puke. nothing but one big lie. HELLO!!!!!! walmart doesnt include adjectives in their display instructions. "exciting" ."for every machine sold we are selling 10 syrupts"? nor do they give out sales numbers to shelve stockers. this is too funny.
I have a cell phone pic of the first page, so what I posted in quotes is exactly what was written. I would post the pic on Yahoo if I could, but certainly don't owe you any proof of my character. Why would I make this up? I wouldn't waste my time, as if I'm here pumping everyday. Just sharing something of interest to the board regardless of your SODA outlook. I've already realized a great gain on an overweight position in the low to mid 30's and still maintain a more modest core position. I think I have a history of only posting what I know to be facts. Otherwise when something is my opinion I think that has been clear. Do you work at Walmart? Assume not, so what do you know? What is so unreasonable for a well run company to educate their front line on the marketing and get them excited so they can help facilitate more sales.
