" ‘Perrier’ is a popular French mineral water brand, which source originates in Southern France. Consumers widely know the brand by the characteristic green, club-shaped bottle and the white lettering. According to the latest data published in the Beverage Industry Magazine, Perrier was ranked as the third leading bottled sparkling water brand with sales amounting to 145.17 million U.S. dollars in 2013. Compared to the previous sales year, the brand increased sales by roughly 20 percent. The generated sales correspond to a market share of 14.7 percent in 2013, down from 18.1 percent in the prior sales year. Only private label brands and ‘Sparkling Ice’ held a larger share of total category sales."
Increased sales by 20 percent yet were substantially outgrown by wider market.... This is VERY solid data that sparkling water is trending quite strongly right now in the u.s... This market represents the heaviest user base of SODA CUSTOMERS... Some sparkling water addicts pay 2000$ a year in gas refills. That's 20x the price of a machine.
Dirty, thank you for the analysis. I have a co-worker who uses a Sodastream machine do exactly that, to make soda water. I also like the 'magic' number you keep mentioning, $3billion. If I own this business, I would not sell under $3B today. The financial numbers support that valuation under reasonable assumptions.
I'm surprised SODA doesn't co-brand with Culligan or another filtered water company. They could have a water dispenser that also has a carbonator in it. Culligan could deliver the water bottles as well as the CO2 refills. It seems like a win-win for both.
