I found the following to be one of the most promising of the statements made in the press release:
"The previously announced study on how to optimize the value of the Company's LNG logistic investments and projects has continued over the quarter. In this respect the Board expects that a strategic decision on the future structure of Golar will be made during the next quarter."
Knowing how JF manages his portfolio of holdings I would suspect this could mean a new start up which would be spun off of Golar, with Golar keeping a majority interest. This is what Seadrill did with Sealift and Sea Production.
In any event, many lurkers like myself bought this stock based on the connection with John Freidrickson(sp). His involvement will keep me around for a while, regardless of how they "manufacture" the quarterly results.
Any other thoughts on the spin off of the logistic and trading business?
Interesting comments by the Board; they indicated that two project areas could be spun out. If I recall correctly the two projects were the land based ones. I go on the protocol that if they say it twice, and then say a specific time line for a resolution, then I believe them. In this case, and again IMHO only, there is one and potentially two spin offs from this company, all of which make it a little more interesting than a straight LNG shipper; probably before the end of this quarter we will know.
I misstated when I said, 'this is what Seadrill did with Sealift and Sea production'....It should read "this is what Frontline did.." I have a hard time keeping all his companies and their interests straight.
